[VETERANS]China to further improve welfare fordisabled veterans

BEIJING —TheMinistry of Veterans Affairs and the Ministry of Finance announced on July 27they will further increase pension allowances and subsidies for groups such asdisabled veterans and families of martyrs.

According to theannouncement, pension allowances for disabled soldiers, police officers, stateofficials, and militia members as well as for family members of martyrs anddeceased soldiers will increase by 10 percent from Aug 1, China’s ArmyDay.

Living subsidiesfor Red Army veterans will also be raised.

Increased spendingin this regard will be subsidized by central authorities, the announcementsaid.

After theadjustment, yearly pension allowances for veterans disabled in war and in theline of duty will reach as much as 80,140yuan($11,780) and 77,610yuanper person respectively.

This is the 25thimprovement to the disabled veteran pension system and the 28th improvement tothe pension standards for families of deceased soldiers and Red Army veteranssince 1978.
