[SOCIAL WELFARE]China makes headway in social welfare,charities work in 2018

BEIJING —China has seen progress in social welfare and charities work in 2018, accordingto the Ministry of Civil Affairs on Feb 21.

More than 10million disabled people in financial difficulties and more than 11 millionpeople with serious disabilities had benefited from subsidies offered byauthorities during the past year, Minister of Civil Affairs HuangShuxiansaid at a news conference in Beijing.

Huang saidauthorities had ensured more than 320,000 orphans were taken care of andprovided assistance for 1.464 million homeless people.

Socialorganizations also played an active role in poverty alleviation and helping theneedy people, Huang said, noting that the number of social workers had exceededone million.
